usually when they’re trying to justify something they did, probably something one may consider unfair.

this is not one of my “philosophical, whimsical mood” posts. this is one of my hopefully few “life is getting me very down, something not easy to do, since i like to see the silver linings” posts.

a tenet i live, and have lived my life by for some time now is, fairness is important. there are others, they’re not relevant now. i was born into this belief, by the structure of my family. the middle child. the younger boy. twins with the youngest, the only girl. fairness runs in my blood.

so people say that life isn’t fair. they say it’s chaos, randomness, go out and try to find fairness and balance in nature, you fool, you idealist impractical child.

maybe life isn’t fair. but we have no control over it, it’s bigger than us, any of us, and whether or not it’s fair cannot be measured. we have control over how we treat other people, how we treat ourselves, how we act and sometimes how we think, and these things are the things we have to temper with fairness. it is the practical who strives to improve his universe; it is the idealist who strives to build a new one. be fair in your life, your life, what you have control over, and even if you falter and fail sometimes, this order you bring, the balance you introduce, is no imaginary and fanciful result. maybe life isn’t fair, and maybe life by definition never will be, but the acceptance of this leads to chaos, and the fight against the inevitability, although possibly futile, leads to a better world.
